Adobe AIR Marketplace FAQ

The following FAQ is for developers who would like to make their Adobe AIR apps available for download through the Adobe AIR Marketplace.

What is the Adobe AIR Marketplace?
Adobe AIR Marketplace is a place where AIR developers can publish their Adobe AIR applications for users to download. You can find the Adobe AIR Marketplace at www.adobe.com/go/marketplace.
Why should I post my application to the Adobe AIR Marketplace?

The Adobe AIR Marketplace is easy to use and helps consumers find and download applications built on Adobe AIR. The Adobe AIR Marketplace:

  • Makes your applications available to millions of potential users.
  • Helps ensure that the user has the best installation experience by installing the AIR runtime (if they don't already have it) along with your application.
  • Offers users the opportunity to give you valuable feedback on your application through ratings and reviews.
What features does the Adobe AIR Marketplace offer?

The Adobe AIR Marketplace:

  • Allows you to post your application for download, including your own application description, application icon, and screen shot.
  • Allows users to download your application.
  • Lets users browse through categories or search for applications.
  • Lets users rate and review your applications.
  • Promotes different applications as featured item on a rotating basis.
Does it cost me anything to post my application to the Adobe AIR Marketplace?

No. Adobe offers the Adobe AIR Marketplace as a free service to Adobe AIR developers.

Will my application be visible on the Marketplace as soon as I submit it?

No. Your submission will be reviewed by Adobe before it is posted. Normally your application should be posted within one or two business days. If there are any questions regarding your submission, Adobe will contact you via the e-mail address you provided as a part of the submission process.

Will Adobe host my Adobe AIR application file on the Adobe AIR Marketplace?

No. Adobe will host the description, images related to your application, and a link to your application's AIR file. You must provide a hosted location from which users will download your application's AIR file directly. If the user does not have the version of the Adobe AIR runtime that your application requires, the Adobe AIR Marketplace will integrate the installation of the necessary Adobe AIR runtime with the installation of your application. You do not need to host the Adobe AIR runtime in addition to your application.

How can I submit my application to the Adobe AIR Marketplace?

The following steps outline how you can submit your application to the Adobe AIR Marketplace:

  1. Go to www.adobe.com/go/marketplace.
  2. On the right-hand navigation, click Upload AIR Marketplace application near the bottom of the list.
  3. If you already have an Adobe ID, log into Adobe.com. If you don't have an Adobe ID, you will be asked to create one before you can upload your application.
  4. Select Upload Type: AIR Marketplace Content from the drop-down list. Read the license agreement and select the I agree with the above license agreement check box.
  5. Click Next and provide the required information:
    • A download link (Note: You must provide the URL to the actual AIR file on your website)
    • A thumbnail image (that is, the application icon as a 48x48 pixel JPEG file)
    • A preview image (that is, an application screen shot as a 300x200 pixel JPEG file)
    • Submission name (the full title of your Adobe AIR application)
    • The version number (if your application has one)
    • A full description of your application
    • A short description (that is, a 128-character summary description)
    • Support info (that is, an optional URL where you offer user support for your application)
    • License type (for example, Freeware, Shareware, or Demo)
    • Product compatibility info (Note: Your application must be compiled for Adobe AIR 1.0 or later)
    • A product category (select a category to which your application will be posted)
  6. Click Submit. Your application will be submitted to a queue where it will be reviewed by the Adobe AIR Marketplace administrator. This review will only ensure your application complies with the license agreement; Adobe will not QA your application. After your submission has been reviewed, your application will be posted to the live site.

Are there restrictions on what I can upload to the Adobe AIR Marketplace?

Yes, there are two restrictions:

  • You will not be able to sell anything on the Adobe AIR Marketplace, so your application must be freeware, shareware, or demo versions. You are welcome to charge a fee for your applications, but those transactions cannot be completed through the Adobe AIR Marketplace at this time.
  • There are terms of service that you have to agree to as a part of the upload process, but there is no fee.
Can I sell my application through the Adobe AIR Marketplace?

Currently you cannot sell your application on the Marketplace, but Adobe is considering a number of enhancements to the Marketplace. Allowing developers to sell their applications through the Adobe AIR Marketplace may be possible in the future.

What languages are supported on the Adobe AIR Marketplace?

Because the Adobe AIR runtime currently only supports English language applications, the Marketplace is only in English. However the Marketplace is accessible worldwide. We do have plans to expand beyond English-only applications as the Adobe AIR runtime supports additional languages in the future. Stay tuned.

Do you plan any enhancements to the Adobe AIR Marketplace?

Yes. To look at the enhancements and new features coming up on the Marketplace, please check out the Marketplace demo. Remember that only the red boxes are clickable on the pages.
