You're probably already familiar with Flash Lite Player 1.1 and the types of content you can create, which range from animations to dynamic applications. As part of the evolution of Flash Lite, we're excited to announce that developers can now start developing content for Flash Lite Player 2, leveraging all of the new features.

Some of the main new features of Flash Lite Player 2 include:

  • Flash Player 7 support
  • ActionScript 2.0 support
  • Loading and parsing XML data
  • Ability to store and retrieve persistent data
  • Dynamic loading of multimedia content and playback using device-based codecs
  • Improved display and handling of fonts
  • Shape drawing and animation through ActionScript

In this presentation, I discuss the evolution of Flash Lite from versions 1.0 to 1.1 to 2, and then show you how to make a Flash Lite 2 video application using the device video playback feature. After testing the application in the mobile emulator using the new Flash Lite 2 Update for Flash Professional 8, I then transfer it to a Symbian S60 device and show how to play, pause, and resume a 3GP video clip.
