Flash Development Center for Verizon Wireless

Flash Cast Development (Dashboard)

If you’re a Flash, Flash Lite or web developer and interested in creating Flash Cast channels for “Dashboard” which is the Verizon Wireless version of Adobe Flash Cast you can now get started.

Dashboard will provide an ecosystem for Verizon Wireless consumers to enjoy rich and interactive services by leveraging the proven content authoring tools and workflow that Flash developers are familiar with. The wide range of experiences that developers and brands will create are known as “channels” which can be thought of as “widgets”.

Dashboard will launch in mid-2008 in the United States on specific handsets however those details are not yet available. The LG VX8700 handset is the reference device that will be used for developing and testing Dashboard channels.

Verizon Wireless’ developer center TheZON now has more information about their implementation of Flash Cast including an FAQ, info about training for Flash Cast development and how to submit your channel ideas to Verizon Wireless for review.

Sell your Flash Lite content to Verizon Wireless subscribers

Now you can sell your Adobe Flash Lite applications and content to Verizon Wireless subscribers. You can either sell directly through Verizon Wireless or indirectly through a content catalog partner.

Verizon Wireless

Directly through Verizon Wireless

With this option, you develop a Flash Lite for BREW application, submit it to National Software Testing Labs (NTSL), and define pricing. Then it is up to Verizon Wireless to determine if it wants to make your application available to customers. (Note that direct management of the developer/publisher by Verizon Wireless is determined solely by Verizon Wireless.)

Smashing Content, Atam Entertainment, Fun Mobility

Indirectly through content catalog partners

With this option, you create Flash content and make it available directly to one of the content catalog partners at left, which then publishes your content directly to Verizon Wireless subscribers. You do not have to submit your content to NSTL testing.

About Flash Lite

Adobe Flash Lite software is Flash Player specifically designed for mobile phones. The powerful combination of Verizon Wireless and Adobe enables the mobile developer community and content providers to target new and existing handsets from the leading wireless operator, utilizing the design and development environments of choice for millions of designers and developers around the world — Adobe Creative Suite 3 software.

Flash Lite for BREW — how it works

Many Verizon Wireless handsets use the BREW platform and BREW delivery solutions from Qualcomm to deliver and update software on the mobile phone.  Adobe Flash Lite for BREW leverages the BREW solutions to deliver Flash based applications and content on the BREW platform. This enables the delivery of Flash content to Verizon Wireless supported devices.
