In this series of articles, I will review working with background images and cascading style sheets (CSS). Background images and their usage is a wide subject. In this series, I will start at the beginning. No prior knowledge is assumed and none will be needed.

I'll start off this series by looking at some simple syntax. From there, you will see how you can use keywords to control your background images and the manner in which they are displayed.

I've included a sample page in the tutorial files for each of the options I cover in this tutorial. You can download the pages and read through the code as you go or, if you prefer, simply work along with the tutorial and build your own pages as you read along.

Dreamweaver 8

Fireworks 8

About the author

Adrian Senior owns the UK-based web design agency Webade, which has been in business since 1998. He is also a member of Team Macromedia and a partner at Community MX. The year 2004 saw Adrian's first trip to America, where he visited Orlando and delivered two sessions at the TODCon conference.
