Macromedia Dreamweaver 8 is the professional choice for building websites and applications. It provides a powerful combination of visual layout tools, application development features, and code editing support, enabling developers and designers at every skill level to create visually appealing, standards-based sites and applications quickly. From leading support for CSS-based design to hand-coding features, Dreamweaver provides the tools professionals need in an integrated, streamlined environment. Developers can use Dreamweaver with the server technology of their choice to build powerful Internet applications that connect users to databases, live data feeds, and legacy systems.

This release of Dreamweaver is the most customer-driven release in our history. With this release, we completely re-architected our product development process to integrate the voice of our customers much earlier and more deeply into the product than ever before. We started the development cycle by visiting customers around the world—from different industries, different organizational sizes, and different interests. We met in large conference rooms and small home offices. We sat side by side with our users at their desks and watched them work—talking with them about what they do, how they do it, and the challenges they face in developing great experiences for the web.

From these conversations, we developed three key themes and features for this release of Dreamweaver—with an emphasis on helping people work with the best practices of the web, integrate the latest technologies into their workflow, and simply get more done in less time. In this article I’ll review where Dreamweaver has come from and what new features and benefits you can look forward to in Dreamweaver 8.
