During the past few years I've often heard of developers in situations where they need to have two different pieces of content, that are both running on a single client machine, exchange messages and information with each other. These have involved cases where:
- Multiple movies were playing in a single browser window
- Movies within a browser while at the same time a projector was running on the desktop
- A movie created with Macromedia Director contained an embedded SWF file that was being used on stage as a sprite
In all these cases and in any other combinations you might have, there is a rather simple and straightforward solution that allows any number of movies, all running on the same client machine, to exchange messages and information at will. That solution is the use of LocalConnection objects.
