Using CFMX7 Extensions for Dreamweaver MX 2004 – Part 2: Creating and Managing CFC Queries

Note: The functionality in CFMX7 Extensions is included in Dreamweaver 8 and Dreamweaver CS3. If you have either of these versions of Dreamweaver, you do not need to install the extension referenced in this article.

In this article, the last of two in this series, I review the miseries of creating and updating queries within ColdFusion components (CFCs) using the native Dreamweaver functionality. I then present the cures to those miseries and the enhancements brought about by CFMX7 Extensions to make Dreamweaver the editor of choice for ColdFusion web application developers.

Requirements:

To understand the features presented in this article fully, you should have the following software installed:

Dreamweaver MX 2004

ColdFusion MX (with the built-in web server)

CFMX7 Extensions created by InterAKT Online (only if not already installed with ColdFusion MX 7)

System requirements:

  • Operating system: Microsoft Windows or Mac OS X
  • Web server: ColdFusion 7.0
  • Some of the features presented here require an RDS login for your server; contact your server administrator for an RDS login

Prerequisite knowledge:

  • Familiarity with Part 1 of this series
  • Familiarity with the Dreamweaver workspace and interface
  • Basic concepts of web application development: cfqueries, recordsets, and basic coding skills
  • Basic knowledge of ColdFusion concepts: components, forms, ColdFusion debugging
  • Ben Forta's Using ColdFusion Components—Properly, a great guide for creating and using components

In the next section, you will learn about the new ColdFusion component (CFC) query options provided by CFMX7 Extensions.
