MPSB05-08 Contribute Publishing Server Password Encryption
Originally posted: November 15, 2005
Summary
Macromedia Contribute Publishing Server (CPS) 1.11 includes a security update which addresses an issue related to user password encryption in connection keys that use shared FTP login credentials.
Solution
Macromedia CPS customers should upgrade their licensed software to Macromedia CPS 1.11, which includes the product fix to this issue.
Severity Rating
Macromedia categorizes this issue as a moderate issue and recommends users patch their installations.
Details
This 1.11 release contains the following patch:
- The mechanism used to create the shared connection keys has been enhanced to use a more secure encryption algorithm.
Making the Changes
Macromedia CPS 1.1 or lower
- Download the Contribute Publishing Server 1.11 installer.
- Launch the Contribute client and select Edit > My Connections. Ensure that all websites managed by CPS 1.1 or 1.0 are listed. If not, the administrator of those websites will need to administer their websites in Contribute and add you to the list of users.
- It is not necessary to remove your existing website connections from CPS. Backup your existing CPS files and install CPS 1.11 following the procedures defined in the Upgrading to CPS 1.11/CPS 1.01 technote.
- In the Contribute client, enter connect:server domain name (where server domain name is the name of the server where CPS is installed) in the Contribute browser address bar to connect to your websites. This process will update the shared connection keys to use a more secure encryption algorithm. You may see an alert that indicates that you already have a connection to this Publishing Server.
