Will Macromedia HomeSite continue to be sold as a separate product, or do I need to buy Macromedia Dreamweaver MX and use Macromedia HomeSite+?

Macromedia HomeSite 5 will continue to be sold as a separate product after the Macromedia Dreamweaver MX release. There are no plans at this time to stop sales of the stand-alone Macromedia HomeSite.

Does the company care about Macromedia HomeSite and its developers?

We love Macromedia HomeSite. In fact, we've included Macromedia HomeSite with every copy of Dreamweaver since its first release—long before we merged with Allaire. We also care about the needs of hand coders and are doing our best to meet them through all our development tools. We know we still have a lot to learn from you, so please continue to send us your feedback on all of our products (including Macromedia HomeSite and Dreamweaver).

Why isn't there a Macromedia HomeSite MX?

Last fall, we shipped Macromedia HomeSite 5, which was the first new release of the product in two years. It's still too early yet for another release of Macromedia HomeSite.

Is Dreamweaver MX supposed to replace Macromedia HomeSite?

We can understand why Macromedia HomeSite users would be concerned, because they notice that we've added features to Dreamweaver that might seem to impact the future of Macromedia HomeSite as a stand-alone product. While we've managed to make Dreamweaver MX a lot better for hand coders than it was, we don't see it as a replacement for Macromedia HomeSite, since both products are excellent for their specific purposes. That's why we continue to sell Macromedia HomeSite as a separate product, and continue to include its functionality with every copy of Dreamweaver.

What is the future of Macromedia HomeSite?

We don't comment on future products. However, all of our product planning is based on customer feedback and the needs of developers like yourself. We're learning a lot about what the hand-coding community expects and wants, and your input is coming through loud and clear. We think hand coding is an essential part of web design (which is why we've added so many hand-coding features to Dreamweaver) and we want to continue to build great products that make you happy. However, at this time we cannot comment when and if a future version of Macromedia HomeSite will be available.

Macromedia announced that in the long term, Macromedia ColdFusion Studio is going away. Doesn't that mean that Macromedia HomeSite is going away, too?

The merger of Macromedia and Allaire gives us a great opportunity to bring unprecedented interconnection between our development tools and application servers. This integration allows developers to build applications much more easily and rapidly than ever before. This integration continues to bring unprecedented power to application developers, but does not mean that Macromedia HomeSite will be discontinued as a product.

What exactly is Macromedia HomeSite+?

Macromedia HomeSite+ is a separate product included with Dreamweaver MX that combines the functionality of Macromedia HomeSite 5 and ColdFusion Studio 5, while adding support for the newest ColdFusion MX tags through new tag editors and tag insight menus. Macromedia HomeSite+ is not sold as a separate product and is only available with Dreamweaver MX.
