Using the new Dreamweaver integrated workspace

The one thing that Macromedia HomeSite users are probably most excited about in Dreamweaver MX is the new integrated workspace—there are no more floating windows. In the integrated workspace, all Document windows and panels are integrated into one larger application window.

In this new Dreamweaver MX workspace, Windows users have the option to view panels on the left side of the window to make it resemble the HomeSite workspace. Code view is the default for this workspace mode.

Note: If you did not choose the HomeSite/Coder style of the Dreamweaver MX workspace the first time you started Dreamweaver MX, you can switch to the integrated workspace at any time. See Switching to the Dreamweaver MX workspace.

It's easy to see how similar the Dreamweaver workspace is to the HomeSite workspace.

Here is how the terminology for the Dreamweaver integrated workspace compares to terminology for the HomeSite workspace:

Switching to the Dreamweaver MX workspace
Dreamweaver MX now has an integrated workspace option in which panels appear on the left. If you did not choose this HomeSite/Coder style of the Dreamweaver MX workspace when you first started Dreamweaver, you can change your workspace at any time.

To switch to a different workspace:

1 Choose Edit > Preferences.
2 Select the General category in the Category list on the left, if it isn't already selected.
3 Click the Change Workspace button.
4 Select a workspace layout and click OK.
An alert message appears to tell you that the new layout will appear after you restart Dreamweaver.
5 Click OK to close the alert message.
6 Click OK again to close the Preferences dialog box.
7 Exit Dreamweaver and restart it.
