performance improvements and enables collaboration with
Macromedia Contribute. In addition, several outstanding
issues discovered since the release of Dreamweaver MX have
been addressed in this version.
If you downloaded the English version of Dreamweaver
MX from the Macromedia site after 12/3/02, then
you have the Dreamweaver MX Updater for Contribute.
Both the trial version of Dreamweaver MX and the
electronic software download available for purchase
on the Macromedia online store were updated on
12/3/02.
How can I tell if I need to download the Dreamweaver
MX Updater for Contribute?
To determine whether or not you already have the
Dreamweaver MX Update for Contribute installed, follow these
steps:
1. Launch Dreamweaver MX.
2. Open the About Dreamweaver window:
In Windows, choose Help > About Dreamweaver.
On Macintosh OS X, choose About Macromedia Dreamweaver
MX from the Dreamweaver menu.
On Macintosh OS 9.x, choose About Macromedia Dreamweaver
MX from the Apple menu.
The copyright notice and credits will begin to scroll.

How to get the Dreamweaver MX Updater for Contribute
If you have Dreamweaver MX installed and would
like to update it to Dreamweaver MX 6.1, you can download
the Dreamweaver MX Updater for Contribute from the Dreamweaver
Support Center.
Before installing the Dreamweaver MX Updater for
Contribute
You should disable all extensions in Dreamweaver
MX before installing the Updater. If you install the Updater
while Dreamweaver MX extensions are enabled, the extensions
will disappear from the Dreamweaver menus.
To disable extensions:
- Launch the Extension Manager by choosing Commands >
Manage Extensions.
- In the Extension Manager, uncheck each of the Dreamweaver
MX extensions to disable them.
After you have installed the Updater and started Dreamweaver
MX for the first time, use the Extension Manager to re-enable
your extensions.
To disable extensions with a multi-user operating system:
If you are using a multi-user operating system (Windows
NT, 2000, XP, or Macintosh OS X), any extension installed
by the Administrator will be retained if you follow the
procedure above. However, individual users who have
installed extensions will also need to disable and re-enable
their own extensions.
After you (the Administrator) have installed the Dreamweaver
Updater for Contribute, alert users that they should do
the following to rebuild their menus:
- Launch the Extension Manager by choosing Commands >
Manage Extensions.
- In the Extension Manager, uncheck and then recheck
each Dreamweaver MX extension, to disable and then re-enable
each extension.
This will rebuild the menus to include their custom set
of Dreamweaver MX extensions.

Improvements in Dreamweaver MX version 6.1
Dreamweaver MX version 6.1 enables collaboration
with Macromedia Contribute. This includes:
- Shared Contribute versioning system: Dreamweaver MX
6.1 uses the same simple versioning and page rollback
system as Contribute.
- Integrated administration of Contribute sites: Dreamweaver
MX 6.1 includes all of the site administration features
available in Contribute directly within Dreamweaver, so
you can modify settings without leaving Dreamweaver MX.
- Ability to send Contribute connection keys: Send encrypted
connection keys to your content contributors right from
Dreamweaver MX.
Dreamweaver MX version 6.1 also includes performance improvements
and fixes for several outstanding issues discovered since
the release of Dreamweaver MX. For more details, please
see the list
of bugs fixed in Dreamweaver MX version 6.1.
Known issues in Dreamweaver MX version 6.1
Neither Dreamweaver MX version 6.1, nor prior versions
of Dreamweaver, support the Unix file system on Macintosh
OS X.
The full installer of Dreamweaver MX will perform a complete
installation of Dreamweaver MX, resetting your configuration
to the default settings.
The Dreamweaver MX 6.1 Updater (Macintosh only) may incorrectly
identify the installed version of Dreamweaver MX as a Trial
version. This can happen if you have previously installed
the purchased version of Dreamweaver MX in the same location
as the Trial version. In this case, when you then attempt
to install the Dreamweaver MX 6.1 Updater, it may report
the error: "The updater cannot update a trial version
of Dreamweaver." To resolve this problem: in the Dreamweaver
MX directory, rename the file VSetupT to
VSetupT-Bak, then restart the Dreamweaver
6.1 Updater.
If you are using ASP.Net in Dreamweaver MX, you should
redeploy the version of DreamweaverCtrls.dll in Dreamweaver
MX version 6.1 to your website(s). This resolves the following
problem: some attributes of the MM:DataSet (for example,
RecordCount) were invalid until the DataSet was initialized,
and any use of the attributes prior to the Page_Load function
resulted in an incorrect value being returned.
