Gareth Downes-Powell
Gareth has been working in the computer industry
for the last ten years, primarily building and
repairing PCs, and writing custom databases. He
branched out onto the Internet four years ago,
and started writing Web sites. This is now his
main area of expertise, and he specializes in
writing custom ASP applications, with SQL Server
or MySQL backend databases.
A partner in Buzz inet, an Internet company specializing
in Web Design and Hosting, he uses a wide range
of Macromedia products, from UltraDev through
to Macromedia Flash and Director for custom multimedia
applications. Recently, Gareth started ultradev.buzzinet.co.uk
as a way of providing support for the whole Macromedia
UltraDev Community. There, he regularly adds new
tutorials and custom written extensions to this
rapidly expanding site.
Gareth enjoys keeping up with the latest developments,
has been providing support to many users to help
them use UltraDev with PHP, and actively promotes
Linux Servers using Chilisoft ASP and the MySQL
Database System. Rarely offline, Gareth can always
be found in the Macromedia UltraDev forum, where
he helps to answer many users questions on a daily
basis.

Omar Elbaga
Starting out as a fine artist, Omar Elbaga gradually
moved to computer graphic arts. He was particularly
amazed by the power of the World Wide Web, so
he embarked upon building small-scale sites
for fun utilizing HTML and his Art background.
Falling in love with designing web pages and
its potential, he began a career in web design.
Omar has since been in the web development field
for several years.
With his head in computer books nearly 24 hours
a day, Omar moved on to enhance his skills from
web design to web programming. He is particularly
amazed with ASP.NET and sees a bright future
in C# and the .NET Framework.
Most of his work involves building database-driven
web sites for small companies. Omar is currently
a Tutorial Manager for udzone.com and running
a popular Ultradev resource site called
udnewbie.com.
Interestingly, having had the opportunity to
study the Arabic language abroad for several
months in an intensive course at the Fajr Center
in Cairo, Omar is also a translator who translates
mostly 12th century scholarly Arabic manuscripts
into English. Omar is currently finishing up
a double major in English Literature and Secondary
Education in New Jersey.

Drew McLellan
Drew McLellan has been a Web Developer since 1996.
Starting originally as a hand coder with nothing
more than a copy of Notepad and a basic HTML reference,
Drew built all his early sites the hard way. Quickly
seeing the great productivity benefits of a visual
editor, Drew jumped on the bandwagon with the
arrival of Dreamweaver 1.2. He continues to push
the boundaries of Dreamweaver through its solid
HTML based methodology and its powerful extensible
architecture.
Drew is the author of the Dreamweaver Developer's
Guide (Osborne/McGraw Hill), as well as a technical
editor of such titles as the Dreamweaver UltraDev
4 Bible (Joseph Lowery, Hungry Minds) and Macromedia
Flash 5 Dynamic Content Studio (Friends of Ed).
As a keen extension writer, many thousands of
Drew's extensions are in use around the globe,
both downloaded from the Macromedia Exchange and
his own site DreamweaverFever.com.

articles and speaks at conferences on this and
related subjects. As Senior Applications Developer

Tim
Payne
Tim has been a Web developer at DSEmotion for over
two years. Starting as an HTML coder way back in
early 1999, he now runs the Web development team
for the company. Having learnt HTML back in the
days when you used a text editor and IE 2.0 was
still brand new, Tim watched the emergence of the
new WYSWIG editors with great interest, finally
becoming a convert to Macromedia with the release
of Dreamweaver 1.2. Since then he has gone on to
use both Drumbeat and Dreamweaver UltraDev.
Most of Tim's work involves developing large
scale database driven sites for clients such as
Worldoftraining, BT Cellnet and All:Sports, although
recently he has been involved in several interesting
projects integrating ASP sites with Macromedia
Generator.
In his spare time, Tim is a technical editor
for Friends of Ed, and enjoys helping out on the
UltraDev forum.

Julian Roberts
Julian Roberts has been developing ASP applications
for two and a half years. His clients have included
BT Cellnet, ColourCare and Wolverhampton University.
His skills are biased towards the functionality
of Web sites rather than design.
He is proficient in VB Script/SQL/JavaScript
and uses UltraDev/Access2k/SQL server to build
dynamic sites.
He is currently learning about C# and the .NET
framework. He hopes to deploy sites built with
this new technology some time in the new year.
His personal site, http://www.charon.co.uk,
is devoted to helping the UltraDev community.
There, he provides extensions and demos for people
to download, hoping that they will benefit from
his experiences with building Web sites.
In his spare time he is a keen golfer and helps
out in the pub where he lives.

Shannon Sofield
Shannon Sofield began working with Macromedia development
tools since its acquisition of Future Splash that
evolved into what is now known as Macromedia Flash.
Since then, he has expanded his product expertise
to include most of the Macromedia product line.
He has chosen to specialize in advanced applications
for Macromedia Flash 5, Generator, and more recently,
Dreamweaver UltraDev. Shannon's role in Web development
for Superfreaker Studios covers much of the development
process including, conceptualization, design, programming,
implementation, and evaluation.
His company, Superfreaker
Studios, is located in Princeton, NJ, and
its main focus lies in creating and developing
ready-made applications for those in the Macromedia
User Community to use and integrate into their
own product and service offerings. His technical
title at Superfreaker is "Keeper of the
Light."
Shannon has worked to provide solutions for clients
such as The State of New Jersey, Xerox, Rockefeller
Center, Princeton University, and National Discount
Brokers. He also works in association with Motion
Over Time of New York, educating and training
clients in the use of Macromedia products.

receive ridable surf, Shannon can be found catching
some waves at his local beach, sometimes in lieu
of his programming duties.

Paul Whitham
Paul Whitham has been building Web sites for the
last four year with sites ranging from simple brochures
up to 500+ pages, although the majority of his clients
tend to be small businesses that want to try e-commerce.
Paul comes from a business background, rather
than programming. He has built up his knowledge
of VBScript & ASP via trial and error, and
playing at lot on the computer, therefore he can
relate easily to the main new users that are in
the online forums.
He believes that Macromedia is a fantastic company
for providing the online forums and by actively
participating in them.
He lives in just north of the capital of New
Zealand, and when he is not in front of the computer,
he chases a funny little white ball through the
trees on the golf course.
His company site is www.valleybiz.net.
