JRun, JNDI, and the J2EE ENC
The Java Naming and Directory Interface (JNDI) is a standard extension to the Java platform that provides naming and directory services for Java 2 Platform Enterprise Edition (J2EE) applications. JNDI lets programs access data, including Java objects, from an online directory database that is stored in a hierarchical structure. JNDI is important for J2EE applications. Many J2EE components, including EJBs, use a JNDI structure as a repository for accessing Java objects and many J2EE specifications provide a mechanism for mapping resource references to JNDI bindings. In addition to supporting J2EE component specifications, Macromedia JRun uses JNDI to store information on JRun services.
This article describes JNDI usage in JRun 4 and outlines the differences between JNDI usage in JRun 3.x and JRun 4.
